Weddings at Lower House Farm

Whatever you are planning, we can help you to create a magical day that is completely one of a kind and clearly, unquestionably yours. We got married at Old Great Marlborough in 2009 and had a fabulous time planning our celebration there; something we were able to do completely from scratch, making the day really personal to both us and our guests who all contributed in one way or another. This experience has helped us to shape our weddings offering at Lower House Farm. Our wedding ethos is based on flexibility; we want to allow you to create a day that is as personal to you as ours was to us and our families. We therefore make every effort to be as accommodating as possible with the way that you might like to use our venues, facilities and catering services.

We can be as involved in your planning process as you would like, creating bespoke menus for all types of celebration and even baking wedding cakes or growing your flowers to order in our allotment. You can even choose one of our rare-breed, responsibly reared animals as your own wedding cow, sheep or pig to be the centrepiece of your meal and come and visit them in person!

Lower House Farm

73 acre Lower House Farm sits in the Olchon valley, bordering the river (with our own waterfall!) and in the dramatic foothills of the Black Mountains – making for a really special rural wedding venue. Our fully restored medieval barn seats 108 on long wooden tables and cosy sheep-skin adorned benches - perfect for big wedding banquets. The barn has vaulted ceilings, original oak timbers and (heated) flagstone flooring. It also has a large entrance porch, two loos (one of which is disabled access) and bifold glass doors opening right up onto a private lawned area and orchard. The barn has a sound and multimedia system for those who want to provide their own music, and is also suitable for bands to play during the evening.

Across the farmyard is a huge open field for wedding guests to use as an additional outdoor reception space, or for outdoor blessing ceremonies. The field leads down to the river and a little beach area - perfect for escaping for a quiet moment on the big day! This field also houses three composting loos.

We cater all events at Lower House Farm ourselves, using our fantastic small-scale farm produce which includes grass-fed lamb and beef and free-range pork, all from rare-breed animals. We source other ingredients from a range of local and organic producers. Late-night pizzas from the wood-fired oven are a particularly popular option for evening guests.

We pride ourselves on offering a really personal and bespoke service to our guests and are on hand to help with the organization right from the outset. All bookings are for exclusive hire and include a day's set-up during the week leading up to the event, with afternoon tea included for the immediate bridal party. There is plenty of parking, a mixture of hard standing and grass.
